The international fight between Malawi’s blossoming boxer Hannock Phiri and seasoned Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) fighter Regen Champion continues to earn massive support from the corporate world, with local engineering firm PLMB Investments donating K3.5 million towards it on Wednesday.
The bout is scheduled for October 5 at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
Speaking after presenting a dummy cheque in Blantyre Thursday, PLMB Investments Public Relations Officer Happy Bakolo said the support was part of their corporate social responsibility.
“As a company, we are committed towards helping in the development of different sporting activities in the country. We are therefore very excited to offer our support to this bout.
“We are aware that arranging an international fight of this magnitude requires a lot of resources. It is for this reason that we decided to help New Dawn Boxing Promotions with some money for this fight,” Bakolo said.

New Dawn Technical Adviser Brighton Mwando thanked PLMB for the donation.
“We would like to thank PLMB Engineering Investments for this support. This is very kind gesture which will go a long way in helping us to organise a successful bout. This will be one of the biggest fights in Malawi boxing and we are just calling on people from all walks of life to come and witness it. There will also be supporting bouts involving some of our top boxers,” Mwando said.
Phiri is undefeated locally and boasts one local and two international belts.
Champion has vast experience having fought in Zambia, DRC, Tanzania and South Africa.
