Music Crossroads Malawi which drives Music Crossroads Academy has opened up scholarships for needy talented musicians in its 2026 scholarship programme.
Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune said Thursday that they receive applications from across the country but due to economic situations especially those coming from outside Lilongwe with no accommodation; find it challenging to pursue their studies.
“So, with support from Focusrite, we provide scholarships to support such candidates who are deserving but economically challenged,” Mfune said.
He said they were targeting around 14 scholarships this time depending on the categories.
“We would want to target more girls playing instruments as well,” Mfune said.

To this far, Mfune said over 100 young musicians have benefited from this initiative since it started.
“We are appealing to well-wishers to adopt and support a student. With K620,000 they can support a non-student to become a professional musician,” he said.
Music Crossroads which recently held a Battle of the Bands Director’s Merit Awards with support from European Union, has played a vital role in training musicians in the country.
Through Music Crossroads Academy, apart from young men, many young women have been trained in vocals, dance and playing instruments.

“As a Music Academy, we are grooming future diversity of musicians. The music industry should brace for a new wave of properly trained musicians, who understand the trade but we do not want to leave out the talented artist because of fees,” Mfune said.
