Struggling TNM Super League side Mzuzu City Hammers has maintained that a top 8 finish is possible despite back-to-back losses.
Hammers are facing relegation after going down to league leaders Mighty Wanderers 1-0 on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
This means Hammers have registered just two wins out of twelve matches and are stuck on position 15 with eight points.
The team’s patron Gift Mkandawire attributed the poor first round run to selling their best players to giants FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers.
The former Wanderers chairperson said they will recruit several players to help strengthen their squad for the second round.

“We remain confident that escaping relegation is possible, and a top 8 finish is another possibility. The team performed very well during our 1-0 loss to Wanderers and one could tell that it is just lacking two or three areas to work on. We need to sign some defenders and strikers,” he said.
The former Super League of Malawi vice president also noted that after selling their best players during the January transfer window, transition has been a big challenge as there have not been ready replacements.
“I think we lacked proper transition after selling goalkeeper Chancy Mtete, Chikumbutso Henderson, Isaac Msiska and Sam Adeyemi. We are working on replacements during the break,” Mkandawire said.
Hammers’ next match is against Bullets at Rumphi Ground on Thursday.
