Mzuzu City Hammers and head coach Kondwa Ikwanga have parted ways on mutual understanding, both parties have confirmed.
The development comes as a surprise as Ikwanga led the Hammers to the 2024 Castel Challenge Cup final, where they lost 1-0 to Mighty Wanderers to finish as runners-up.
Ikwanga also led Hammers to finish on fourth position in the TNM Super League with 48 points from 30 matches.
Hammers General Secretary Benjamin Thole declined to disclose reasons behind Ikwanga’s departure but revealed that the club had started the process of hiring a new coach.
“It is, indeed, true that our coach has left the club after mutual agreement. We wish him all the best and are hopeful that the club will get another coach as soon as possible,” Thole said.
Thole was confident that Hammers would land a good coach capable of meeting the team’s targets for the forthcoming season.
However, Ikwanga did not divulge much details but commended Hammers, saying it was a great moment working with the club.
“Let me not talk too much. I hope all has been said by the club officials. Reaching the Castel Cup final was one of the best moments and I wish the club all the best,” Ikwanga said.
In July last year, Mzuzu City Hammers appointed the Karonga United former gaffer when he replaced Elias Chirambo, who was promoted to the post of technical director.
