Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) Executive Committee will this week meet to sort out issues surrounding the Malawi National Netball Team coach post ahead of the Test Series against continental rivals South Africa.
In the last two competitions, Nam Technical Director Samuel Kanyenda was in charge of the Queens but the side performed poorly after finishing seventh at the 2023 Netball World Cup and anchored the six member Fast5 World Netball Series.
Nam General Secretary Isaac Chimwala said the association’s executive will iron out issues to do with the national team coaching post.
“We are having our executive meeting this week and topping the agenda is the coaching post. The executive will guide on how we should handle the issue or hire a coach. Once this is done, Nam executive is going to issue a public statement regarding its position,” Chimwala said.
The post fell vacant under controversial circumstances when Nam indicated that Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa’s contract had expired but the coach insisted that her contract had been extended.

Reports have linked Imosys Netball Club Coach and former Queens skipper Joana Kachilika with the senior team’s coaching job following Malawi Queens’ uninspiring display under Kanyenda.
However, Chimwala declined to confirm if Kachilika would be appointed coach, saying that the association was considering “several names”.
Chimwala said the Nam executive would also discuss the Queens’ preparations as Netball South Africa has hinted at shifting the Test Series to next month.
Sports analyst Frank Chakanga said Nam must iron out issues to do with the national team coach sooner rather than later.

“We need to be serious. How can we go to two major tournaments without a coach? This issue should be treated with urgency,” he said.
The development comes after Nam budgeted Queens’ participation at the 2024 Spar Test Series at K130 million.
