The 2024 NBS Bank Charity Shield between eventual winners FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium last Saturday raised K43.6 million.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) announced the figure Wednesday.
In total, the NBS Bank Charity Shield match grossed K88.4 million in gate revenue, sponsorship and broadcasting rights.
Out of the K88.4 million, K40 million was a donation from sponsors NBS Bank whereas K44.5 million was realised through ticketing. On top of that, K3.9 million was generated through broadcasting rights.

Fam Marketing and Broadcasting Manager Tulipo Mwenelupembe described this year’s Charity Shield as a success.
“It is pleasing to note that the Charity Shield [package] continues to increase every year, which is also encouraging for Fam and the sponsor. We channel the proceeds to community projects with a great social impact,” Mwenelupembe said.
This means Fam will channel K43.6 million of this year’s NBS Bank Charity Shield towards construction of sanitary facilities at a yet-to-be-identified primary school in the Central Region.
According to Fam, the total expenses were K44.7 million. Out of K44.7 million, K13.8 million was expenses for logistics and accommodation, K8 million for teams’ equipment such as kits, kits branding and medals whereas ground levy was K7.7 million.

K4.5 million and K2.8 million was for security and ticket printing, respectively.
Silver Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba expressed satisfaction with the gross revenue of the match.
“It is a true reflection of the crowd. Of course, there is room for improvement. The most important thing is that the money is for a noble cause,” he said.

Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga shared similar sentiments.
“We are satisfied considering the events that preceded the shield. Malawians were pre-occupied with the 4 Nations Tournament,” he said.
Meanwhile, sports analyst Parry Chinyama has also been impressed with net income.
“Considering the current economic challenges, this is positive news,” he said.
Advance Standard ticket was selling at K3,000 whereas VIP ticket was going at K10,000. On match day, the standard ticket was at K4,000 whereas K15,000 was for VIP.
Bullets won the Shield for the straight seventh time after beating Silver 7-6 on post-match penalties.
