Organisers of the Ku Mingoli Bash have announced that Jamaican-American reggae singer and songwriter Alaine Laughton will not perform at the event slated for this Saturday at Grand Business Park in Lilongwe.
The organisers had indicated on their lineup that Alaine would be one of the international acts to perform at the bash alongside Yo Maps from Zambia and South African afro pop duo Blaq Diamond.
Speaking during a press conference in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Sound Addicts Live Managing Director Shadreck Kalukusha said that the singer, who is also a producer and actor, will not make it for the bash due to forex shortage in the country.
He, however, assured people that Alaine will come to Malawi at a later date, since half of her payment was already made.
“We understand the impact of this disappointment but we have added to our great list lineup— Daliwonga, the Amapiano artist from South Africa,” Kalukusha said.
The sound engineer said all the other acts on the lineup including Yo Maps and Blaq Diamond and the country’s acts such as reggae heavyweights Black Missionaries, Tuno, Driemo, Kell Kay, Onesimus, KOTN, Zeze Kingston, Zonke, Gibo Pearson, Joe Gwaladi, Sean Morgan, Pop Young and Melz—remain intact.
