Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Chairperson Lameck Zetu Khonje has accused Football Association of Malawi (Fam) of delaying construction works at Luwinga Technical Centre (LTC) in Mzuzu.
Construction of the Fifa project started in 2011 but works are yet to be completed.
Khonje said NRFA nominated Super League of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya for the Fam presidency at the expense of the incumbent Walter Nyamilandu because they are frustrated with delays in completing the facility.
“We think it is a failed project because it does not receive the much-needed support from Fam leadership despite Fifa providing funds.

“It is about 12 years now but it remains a construction site. No meaningful progress has been made,” Khonje said.
He made the remarks on Sunday during the association’s annual general meeting which took place in Chitipa.
Interestingly, Khonje has received seven nominations for the post of Fam second vice president and will face incumbent Othaniel Hara, who got two nominations.
Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda did not pick up our phone calls.

But speaking earlier this month, during a joint press conference with Fifa’s official Gelson Fernandez, Nyamilandu disclosed that they were expecting to receive $250,000 (about K294,293,750 before devaluation) from Fifa for an inclusive football academy set to be opened at Luwinga Technical Centre.
