The Northern Region Water Board (NRWB)’s decision to introduce new water tariffs has sparked concerns among consumers, commentators and civil society organisations amid persistent water supply challenges in Mzuzu and surrounding areas.
Under the new tariff structure, approved by the government and effective from August 7, 2026, consumers at communal water points will pay 94 tambala per litre, while domestic consumers will pay K2.85 per litre.
