Theatre is here once again, and this time Theatre in Mandala has invited Inter Alliance for Umunthu Theatre with their production titled Nyambose Goes to Town to be staged at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre on Sunday afternoon.
Director of Inter Alliance for Umunthu Theatre Bright Chayachaya was excited yesterday saying people were in for a treat with what he described as a sensational masterpiece in Nyambose Goes to Town.
While others may criticise drama graduates for their lack of impact in the industry, Chayachaya said Inter Alliance for Umunthu Theatre, is scoffing at such notions.
“We boost a stellar lineup of thespians, who have not only walked the halls of universities but have also transformed theory into breathtaking reality on stage,” he said.
Written by Innocent Katsache better known as Inno Katz, who is a University of Malawi (Unima) graduate, Chayachaya said the play promises an unforgettable experience.
“We have had massive rehearsals, and we are now ready to serve this production. The narrative point of view of the story is slightly different from most of the theatrical performances. The presentation and style are also unique from other styles we normally witness on our Malawian stages,” he said.
Chayachaya described the play as engaging where they delve into the intricate narratives of urban migration as well as shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals seeking a better life.
“Our play challenges societal norms and confronts deeply ingrained vices, inviting audiences to reflect on the values we hold dear. It further explores the dynamics of street life and its profound impact on communities, as we aim to provoke thought and dialogue our collective journey,” he said.
Apart from Chayachaya, some of the actors starring in the production include Vitumbiko Zgambo, Pleasant Banda, Hannock Chaika, Enifa Mituka Nkhata, Kellie Chikoko, Edzai Kamwendo, Rebecca Ndeka and Shantel Mgawana.
“This is a family entertainment. Let them come and support us and appreciate theatre,” Chayachaya said.
