Poetry Association of Malawi (Pam) has said it wants to do more in using poetry to bring about change in the country following implementation of its project on the promotion of positive actions on post pandemics and disaster recovery in the creative sector.
The poetry body is driving the project using funds from Copyright Fund, spearheaded by Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma), to the tune of over K6 million.
“This project is huge for us, as a poetry body, and we are glad to get to the ground and bring about change. We are implementing this project in the districts of Chiradzulu and Phalombe, which were worst hit by Cyclone Freddy. Through this project, we also seek to empower 40 primary school learners from Chanza Primary School in Chiradzulu and Phaloni Primary School in Phalombe,” Pam President Robert Chiwamba said Monday.
He said, ahead of activities they have lined up in the project, they recently held an entry meeting at Chanza Primary School in Chiradzulu, where they engaged stakeholders such as primary education advisers, head teachers and traditional leaders, among others.
“It was a fruitful meeting and it is now time to get down to implementation. It involved informing players about the project and seeking their views on how to enrich the project. We would like to thank Cosoma for the funding. We, as poets, are there to entertain and also use poetry to tackle issues affecting society,” Chiwamba said.
