By Isaac Salima:
People’s Development Party (PDP) is expected to hold its convention at Comesa Hall in Blantyre today.
The party’s acting publicity secretary Rhodes Msonkho said about 1,200 delegates were expected to attend the conference, at which they would elect National Executive Committee members.
The party’s interim president Kondwani Nankhumwa is expected to go unopposed.
Msonkho said unlike the case with other political parties— which started elective convention activities in the morning—the party’s convention would begin today evening.

“All is set for the convention, which will run until Saturday. As we are talking, some delegates from across the country have started off for Blantyre,” he said.
Msonkho said 40-plus positions would be up for grabs.
“We are impressed with the number of women who are competing in different positions and we expect that they will make it,” Msonkho said.
PDP becomes the third party in the country to hold its elective convention after the Malawi Congress Party, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and People’s Party held theirs recently.

In May this year, Nankhumwa formed PDP after being expelled from DPP.
