Silver Strikers coach Peter Mponda has refused to get carried away with his side’s impressive start to the 2024 TNM Super League season.
The Central Bankers claimed their first away win of the campaign when they defeated rookies Baka City 2-0 at Karonga Stadium on Saturday.
Following the victory, Silver opened a three-point gap over second placed Mzuzu City Hammers, who shared the spoils with Moyale Barracks after a 1-1 stalemate at Mzuzu Stadium on the same day.
However, Silver have opened a five-point gap over fellow giants TNM Super League defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who also drew 1-1 in the Blantyre derby at Kamuzu Stadium.
Despite the five-point gap over Bullets and Wanderers, Mponda said his charges do not have an advantage in the title race.

“There are more games to play and we will be taking each game at a time; yes, the boys must enjoy the win and after that we will be back to business,’’ Mponda said.
However, despite the win, Mponda was not happy with the performance of the team.
Chimwemwe Kalyala scored into his own net before Binwell Katinji secured maximum points for Silver.
Out of the five matches, Silver have only dropped points against Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos following a 1-1 stalemate at Dedza Stadium. They started the season with a 2-0 victory over Chitipa United at Silver Stadium before beating Bangwe All Stars 3-1 at the same venue. Then followed a 1-1 stalemate against Dedza and 5-1 win over Mafco.

Sports analyst Sherry Msuku said it is too early to talk about the title race.
“It is good to start on a high. But the league is a marathon; so, they need to be consistent to win the title,’’ he said.
