Malawian body builder Zacheus Phiri won three gold medals at the Bodybuilding and Fitness Africa League of Champions Tournament in Lusaka, Zambia, on Sunday.
Phiri, who recently finished on second position during the 2024 Malawi Nationals Bodybuilding Championship, emerged winner in Men’s Warriors, Men’s Extreme and Overall Bodybuilding categories.
Phiri has since earned a World Fitness Federation Professional Division Pro-Card Licence, which means he graduated from amateur to professional bodybuilder.
“I prepared extensively prior to the contest. I am grateful for realising my dream. I will continue working hard to keep raising the Malawian flag in international bodybuilding contests,” Phiri said.

Three other Malawian body builders—Christopher Mwakabanga, Bruce John and Saeed Sumaili—also competed at the contest.
Mwakabanga finished second in Junior Bodybuilding, John finished fourth in the Men’s Physique while Sumaili finished second in Men’s Physique.
Bodybuilding Fitness Association of Malawi (Bfam) General Secretary Carlos Simwaka said the result highlights the sports’ growth.
“We are pleased that our bodybuilders are getting continental recognition,” Simwaka said.
