The Public Appointments Committee (Pac) of Parliament has rejected Shailey Kondowe and Senior Chief Chowe from Mangochi District as members of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Board of Directors.
However, Pac refused to give reasons for the rejection.
However, our sources said a diploma or degree is a prerequisite for one to be a member of the MBC Board of Directors.
The committee has also rejected Peter Rashid, who was earmarked for the role of one of the Civil Service board members.
Pac Chairperson Joyce Chitsulo confirmed the development to The Daily Times.

“We met on Wednesday and Thursday to confirm the names of some [of those who have been earmarked for positions in] parastatals [after they were] endorsed by President Lazarus Chakwera,” Chitsulo said.
She, however, refused to shed light on why committee members rejected three people that were earmarked for the MBC Board of Directors role and one for the civil service commission.
“All I can say is that the committee has confirmed David Nungu as the chairperson for the Health Service Commission,” she said.
Nungu has replaced Traditional Authority Mbenje, who died two years ago.

Pac has also confirmed Limbikani Kamulongera, Vasco Kachipapa and Chimwemwe Matemba as board members for the MBC Board of Directors.
It has also nodded to the appointment of Arthur Christian Chibwana as chairperson for the Civil Service Commission while Sautso Jane Milanzi Kalemera and Edith Fortunate Mkawa have been confirmed as members.
In line with Section 191(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, the government is supposed to present names of appointees to Pac, which either confirms or snubs them.
