Malawi National Netball Team is yet to go into camp ahead of this year’s Fast5 World Netball Series scheduled for November 12 in New Zealand.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Isaac Chimwala said the team cannot start preparations without funding.
“We sent our budget to Malawi National Council of Sports and we are waiting for a response. The interim coach has the squad to take into camp but we cannot proceed without the greenlight from Sports Council. I should tell you something once we get a response,” Chimwala said.
Sports Council spokesperson Edgar Ntulumbwa confirmed receiving the budget but said it was sent back.
“We are looking for a consolidated budget. We cannot go to government and ask for piece-meal funding. What they gave us was the budget for the Fast5 Series only. But what we need is a consolidated budget for all their programmes for this year. So we sent it back,” Ntulumbwa said.

Queens interim coach and Nam Technical Director Samuel Kanyenda said he was looking forward to starting preparations as soon as possible.
“I submitted a squad and dates for camping ahead of the tournament but nothing has happened this far. We should have already started camping by now. Time is running out,” he said.
The Queens are racing against time as other teams such as world number one Australia have released their respective squads and are camping in preparation for the global tournament.
