“Like the past year, we had some challenges but we still registered success. In the past three years, our assets have grown from K4.5 billion to K8.1 billion.
“This is a national sacco; so, we would like to serve our members well. We hope that, through our ‘bring a member’ initiative, we will continue gaining more members,” she said.
Secretary for Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism Wiskes Nkombezi has pledged the government’s support so that Saccos can continue operating in a conducive environment.
“We are responsible for the developmental part of saccos so that we can grow the sector.

“What we want is a vibrant and bigger movement. In a country that has over 22 million people, we cannot be talking of less than 300,000 as members of saccos, hence the need to support the movement,” he said.
Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives Central Finance Facility Manager Ezekiel Thindwa hailed saccos for what he said was an outstanding performance in recent years.
“We have seen that the lives of members have also been transformed, which is encouraging,” he said.
