At least 800 newly recruited teachers in Lilongwe West have voiced frustration over salary delays, saying they are yet to get September pay.
The teachers, who reported for duty on September 3 and 4, claim that their names are missing from the government payroll system, despite fulfilling all recruitment requirements.
A representative of the affected teachers, Boniface Grevazio, said officials at the Lilongwe District Education Manager’s office informed them that their names had not yet been entered into the system, making salary processing impossible.
“We were told by the HR at the District Education Manager’s Office that we will receive our salaries when our names have been uploaded into the system,” Grevazio said.

He appealed to the government to consider them, saying the teachers were struggling to feed their families and have no alternative means of income.
When contacted, Department of Human Resources Management spokesperson Kennie Mtonga asked for ample time before he could comment on the matter.
