Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, have a perfect opportunity to fine-tune when they face Seychelles in an international friendly at Mpira Stadium this afternoon.
After this afternoon’s match, the two teams will also play another match on Thursday at the same venue.
The two matches have been organised as part of preparations for this year’s Hollywood Bets Cosafa Women’s Championship slated for October 4 to 15 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This is the first home international friendly for the Scorchers since they hosted Zambia and lost 3-2 at Nankhaka Stadium in 2016.
On paper, the Scorchers are favourites in this tie but, in football, anything can happen.

The two teams are separated by four places on Fifa rankings as the Scorchers are on position 159 in the world whereas Seychelles are ranked 163.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said the two friendlies will help him to assess the players ahead of the Cosafa Cup.
“Even though Seychelles are lowly ranked than us, the international match has a lot of benefits. The match will help us to know our shortcomings and strengths,” Fazili said.
Fazili named a 28-member provisional squad for the tournament and included Chawinga sisters Tabitha and Temwa.

However, Temwa is available but Tabitha, who has joined PSG on loan, is doubtful for the tournament. TP Mazembe attacking midfielder Sabina Thom and Elite Ladies defender Chimwemwe Madise have also been included.
