The Malawi Women’s National Football Team will open their campaign in the 2026 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals against defending champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons on July 28 at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
This follows the release of fixtures of the rescheduled Wafcon finals, which will run from July 25 to August 16.
The Scorchers, who are in Group C, will face Egypt’s Cleopatras in their second match on August 1 at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, before wrapping their group stage campaign against neighbours Zambia’s Copper Queens at Al Madina Stadium four days later.
Two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The semi-finalists will automatically book their spots at next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup finals, to be staged in Brazil.

Quarterfinalists will battle for a play-offs spot at next year’s global women’s football showpiece.
The Scorchers will go into the Wafcon finals campaign after mixed fortunes, having failed to win a single match in the last five matches.
Malawi lost 5-0 to Australia before suffering a 3-2 loss to India at the Fifa Women’s Series in Nairobi, Kenya, in April.
Early this month, the team lost 1-0 to Tanzania’s Twiga Stars before a goal-less stalemate in international friendly matches at KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The team last won a match at the delayed 2025 Cosafa Women’s Championship when it defeated Lesotho 8-1 and Angola 1-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa, in January this year.
Despite inconsistent results, Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili recently insisted that the team was ready for the big stage.
“We have learnt a lot from the tournament in Tanzania and this will help us fine-tune for the Wafcon finals. Many players have given me the reason to believe that we are on track and ready for the tournament,” he said.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said the Scorchers had a lot of homework to do.
“There is room for improvement. I believe the technical panel will address the shortcomings before the tournament,” he said
The team will make its maiden appearance at the Wafcon finals, having qualified after beating Angola-2-0 on aggregate.
