Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili has declared his side fully prepared for the upcoming Cosafa Women’s Championship and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualifiers.
This follows Scorchers’ two back-to-back wins over visitors Lesotho Women’s National Football Team at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
Fazili’s charges proved too strong for Lesotho’s on Sunday, repeating Friday’s 3-0 victory.
“We wanted to test our systems, refine our combinations and sharpen the mentality of the players. I am happy to say we are now ready [for the matches]. The girls showed hunger, discipline and unity, and that gives me confidence going into October,” Fazili said.

The Scorchers once again lit up Mpira Stadium with a commanding performance, beating Lesotho 3-0 in back-to-back international friendlies.

Asimenye Simwaka was the star of the afternoon, netting a hat-trick of headers.
The precise crosses that created her goals came from Sabina Thom and Justina Jumbo, who were tireless on the flanks.
The win did more than secure dominance over Lesotho; it also marked Malawi’s unprecedented ninth consecutive international friendly victory this year.
For Fazili, such progress is no coincidence but the result of improved cohesion, discipline and tactical awareness within his squad.

“We are happy. Both tournaments [Wafcon and Cosafa] will require consistency and resilience, qualities we believe the players are steadily embracing,” he said.
The Cosafa Women’s Championship has often been a launchpad for the Scorchers, but this year carries added weight— with the Wafcon qualifiers also on the horizon.
He said as the Scorchers shift focus to continental competition, their winning form and the rise of players such as Simwaka, Thom and Jumbo provide a significant boost.
For Lesotho, however, the tour ended in disappointment.
Their head coach, Shalane Lehohla, admitted his side was undone by Malawi’s pressing game and attacking sharpness.
“We failed to identify Malawi’s key players, and that was costly. Simwaka punished us because we didn’t track her runs. We need to learn quickly if we are to compete at this level,” he said.
