The Malawi Women’s National Football Team will face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in an international friendly match on June 19 in Casablanca.
This will be the fifth record international friendly match for the Scorchers this year, having played against Zambia and South Africa in February and April, respectively.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the Scorchers were expected to regroup next week ahead of the trip.
“The Scorchers will play an international friendly match on June 19. The team is expected to depart on June 15 and return on June 20,” Zakazaka said.
He said Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili was expected to name members of his squad next week.

The match against Morocco comes after the Scorchers were idle during the just-ended Fifa Women’s Window, which runs from May 27 to June 4.
However, the match will be played days before the start of the delayed 2024 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals in Morocco.
Morocco qualified as hosts whereas the Scorchers did not take part in the qualifiers.
But the Scorchers are using the international friendly match as part of preparations for the 2026 Wafcon second round qualifiers against Angola.

The Scorchers advanced to the second round of the qualifiers without kicking a ball after Congo Brazzaville pulled out of the competition.
On the other hand, Angola eliminated Zimbabwe following a 5-4 victory on post-match penalties after a 3-3 result on aggregate.
The overall winner between Malawi and Angola will qualify for Wafcon finals.
In February this year, the Scorchers played back-to-back friendly matches against Zambia’s Copper Queens.
They lost the first match 2-0 but won the second leg match at Reiz Arena in Lusaka.
In April, the team lost 3-0 to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana before suffering a 2-1 loss in the second match.
