Silver Strikers Head Coach Peter Mgangira has admitted that the team’s poor away form has cost them in the first round of the FDH Bank Premiership.
The Central Bankers have managed just two victories away from home this season, beating struggling sides Creck Sporting and Kamuzu Barracks.
Silver ended the first round on a disappointing note after suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre City on Saturday.
The Area 47-based side finished the first round with 29 points from 15 matches, having won eight matches, drawn five and lost two.

The team scored 23 goals, conceded 10 and are currently third on the log table.

At the same stage last season, Silver also occupied third position but had 30 points, having won eight matches, drawn six and lost once. They had scored 25 goals and conceded 11.
Mgangira said the team needed to address its shortcomings, particularly in away matches, if it were to challenge for honours in the second round.
Silver lost the services of regular right-back MacDonald Lameck and midfielder Uchizi Vunga during the first round, with both players joining clubs in Zimbabwe.
However, Mgangira played down suggestions that the departure of the two players left a void in his squad.

Instead, the gaffer attributed their setbacks to errors on the pitch. “It has been some individual and departmental errors that cost us, but we cannot blame the players because they are the ones who have gotten us good results in the matches we have been winning,” he said.
