Pressure has started mounting on Silver Strikers Coach Pieter de Jongh following back-to-back defeats in the TNM Super League this season.
Despite all the early promises in which they played 11 matches unbeaten, the Bankers have already lost four matches in the TNM Super League.
The latest is the 3-2 loss to Bangwe All Stars at Kamuzu Stadium just a week after they lost 1-0 to Red Lions at Balaka Stadium.
Sensing danger, the club’s top brass summoned the Dutchman on Tuesday, when a number of issues were discussed.
Times Sport has established that de Jongh has been told to quickly turn things around before the season gets out of hand.
During the meeting, the club’s hierarchy expressed concern with the team’s poor results in the second round.
Silver Company Secretary Peter Masiye said that he will turn things around. they have hope in de Jongh
“We have one of the best squads in domestic football but we are surprised with the performance of the team. Again, we have the best coaching panel. So, we expect results to improve in the next matches,’’ Masiye said.
Asked if de Jongh has been given an ultimatum, Masiye said the board does not believe in ultimatums to solve problems.
“We have a contract with the coach and he knows that he has to fulfil his obligations,’’ he said.
According to Masiye, de Jongh will be assessed at the end of the season.
During a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match against Extreme FC at Bingu National Stadium, de Jongh said his target is to win every match.
“Every match we play, we want to win. But in football, sometimes you have tough luck,” de Jongh said.
The Dutchman has, on several occasions, complained about lack of new signings in the just-ended transfer window.
Silver only signed George Chaomba from Mighty Tigers but lost influential midfielder Chimwemwe Idana at the end of his loan deal.
Following two consecutive defeats, Silver are fourth on the log table with 32 points from 18 matches, two points behind leaders and defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who have played a match less.
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Chitipa United are second and third with 33 points each from 18 matches as well.
The Bankers have gone 10 consecutive years without winning the TNM Super League championship.
