Songwe Border United have been relegated from the TNM Super League with five matches to spare.
They are the first team to be relegated following poor performances this season.
Songwe suffered their 21st defeat of the season when they lost 3-0 to Mzuzu City Hammers at Karonga Stadium on Wednesday.
The defeat summed up Songwe’s awful campaign in the TNM Super League, having won one match, registered three draws and 21 losses in 25 matches.
Their first-ever win in the TNM Super League was a 1-0 victory over Chitipa United at Chitipa Stadium last month.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) confirmed the relegation of the Northern Region-based side Thursday.
With five matches to go, Songwe can only manage 21 points if they win all their remaining matches. They cannot overtake Hammers, who have 23 points from 25 matches.
Songwe will face Goshen City Dedza Dynamos in their next match.
Songwe Technical Director Gift Chilongo admitted that it was difficult to withstand the heat in the league.

Chilongo said the team would quickly bounce back to the Super League.
“We will not stay long in the lower league. Our plan is to maintain the squad and add a few players,” he said.
Following Songwe’s relegation, two more teams will be relegated from the TNM Super League this season.
As things stand, Hammers and Dedza are in the relegation zone.
However, both teams can escape relegation if they win all their remaining matches.
That sets up a potentially exciting relegation battle.
Hammers Assistant Coach Lawrence Waya said the win over Songwe had boosted their survival hopes.
“We will try our best to win the remaining matches,” he said.
Apart from Hammers and Dedza, six more teams— Ekhaya, Chitipa, Creck Sporting Club, Moyale Barracks, Mighty Tigers and Mafco—are not safe from relegation.
The teams are separated by 10 points.
