Stakeholders in the education sector have described early childhood education as crucial to the development of a child and that of the nation.
The sentiments were made by Ubuntu Education Chief Operating Officer Jess King at the ‘Leading Education Change’ conference that took place in Lilongwe.
“Early childhood education is not just about academic but also the physical wellbeing of a person. Early childhood education is key and it is important that governments, including that of Malawi, should pay much attention to such education if children and nations are to develop,” King said.
On his part, Professor of Psychology at the University of Botswana and visiting Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, Seth Oppong said early childhood education should strive to ensure that children become useful members of their society.

“Being useful is being able to contribute meaningfully to their society and their nation,” Oppong said.
