Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers have agreed to honour Thursday’s TNM Super League match after the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) turned down their request to have the fixture rescheduled to next month.
In a statement, Sulom also announced that it has opened match fixing investigations after the two clubs discussed a league match without the body’s consent.
“Kindly note that it is illegal for teams in any competition to conspire and discuss a league match without the knowledge of Sulom. Such conduct has raised suspicions of match fixing.
“In this regard, Sulom has commenced match fixing investigations and appropriate remedial actions shall be taken against any team or official who shall be found on the wrong side of the law,” the statement, which has been signed by Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda, reads.
The statement advises the clubs that the match will take place Thursday.

“We, therefore, regret to inform you that the request did not meet requirements of article 19.4 as read with 19.12 of the Super League rules and regulation.
“Respectively, the match will proceed as scheduled on 20th July 2023 and failure to fulfil the fixture shall lead to forfeiture of points as per Sulom rules and regulations,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, both teams have accepted to honour the fixture.
“We are not surprised at all; we expected either yes or no. Sulom has said no and we will proceed to play and we are ready to play.

“Our request was for the benefit of football and not individual teams. We must always look at the bigger picture,” Silver Company Secretary Peter Masiye said.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roosevelt Mpinganjira shared similar statements.
“We will play the match. Period. Football has to win, not individuals. Some people have taken the game of football very far to where we are now and, as such, we should not be the ones to destroy the beautiful game,” he said.
On Monday, the clubs wrote Sulom to shift the game to next month.
The clubs pointed out that their players, who were with the Flames in South Africa, where they participated in Cosafa matches, will be tired, having returned home Tuesday.
Wanderers and Silver also indicated that they have a congested fixture.
The letter was signed by Wanderers’ CEO Mpinganjira and Gift Mwale Gunde on behalf of Silver.
Currently, Silver lie second on the log table with 25 points, a point below leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who have played 13 matches, two above the Bankers.
Wanderers have 19 points from 11 matches.
