Four suspended top executives of parastatals are still awaiting their fate nearly two months after their suspensions.
The government suspended senior officials of several parastatals, including Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Director General (DG) George Kasakula, Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) DG Daud Suleman, Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Henry Kachaje and National Economic Empowerment Fund (Neef) CEO Humphrey Mdyetseni.
The government confirmed that the four were suspended pending investigations.
Yesterday, Chief Secretary to in the Office of the President and Cabinet Justin Saidi said he needed more time to provide a comprehensive response on the issue.

Kasakula said he had not received any communication from authorities.
“I only heard that they wanted to conduct their investigations so we are just waiting,” he said.
Mdyetseni gave a similar response.

Suleman was unavailable by phone and had not responded to a WhatsApp questionnaire.

However, Kachaje said he had tendered his resignation at Mera.
“I resigned from Mera. I submitted my resignation to the Mera board chairperson and copied the Comptroller of Statutory Cooperation on October 30, 2025. My resignation was effective November 1, 2025,” he said.
Some legal experts quoted in the media criticised the government over the suspensions, claiming they were in violation of institutional legislation.
Other commentators also questioned the suspensions in the absence of the boards of directors.
The government is yet to appoint boards, which also conduct disciplinary hearings for top executives.
Top officials have been appointed in acting capacities.
At MBC Moses Chiwoni was appointed acting DG, taking over from Arthur Chipenda who served in the same capacity for a short time.
Mphatso Phiri is also acting DG at Macra.
