Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Tabitha Chawinga produced a solid performance for Paris Saint-Germain Women’s FC in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich as they advanced to the quarterfinals of the Uefa Women’s Champions League on Tuesday.
Tabitha scored one goal and was also named player-of-the-match.
This is Tabitha’s third goal for PSG in the Uefa Champions League this year.
The Malawian scored in the 73rd minute as she cancelled out Giulia Gwinn’s 36th minute opener. She outpaced Munich defender before rounding off the goal to slot the ball into an empty net.
However, Sydney Lohmann restored Munich’s lead two minutes later.
An own goal from Georgia Marie Stanway in the 88th minute secured a valuable point for PSG.
The French giants advanced to the quarterfinals as Group C winners with 10 points from six matches, above runners-up Ajax on goal difference.
In an interview yesterday from France, she said she was excited for helping PSG to reach the quarterfinals.
“We are through to the knock- out stage. A wonderful performance from the team,’’ she said.
PSG have reached the quarterfinals of the competition nine times in 10 seasons. They could meet Benfica, Brann or Hacken in the quarterfinals.
It will be the first time for Tabitha to play in the knockout stage of the competition.

Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili also hailed Tabitha for living up to expectations in France.
“Uefa Champions League is very difficult but she has adapted well. I am happy that she is scoring goals for her club in all competitions,’’ Fazili said.
Tabitha, who is on loan from Chinese giants Wuhan Jiangda, has started well in France. She is the joint-top scorer in France with nine goals.
The former DD Sunshine (now Silver Strikers Ladies) player has a good history of winning golden boot awards in her debut season in all the countries she has played.
Last year, she won when she scored 23 goals in 21 matches for Inter Milan Women. She won the same award in China and Sweden.
