There were unnecessary delays that frustrated revellers but they were not enough to keep them away from enjoying a Sound Addicts Live debut concert in Blantyre that started on Sunday and ended in the wee hours of Monday.
Expectations were high that the concert, that took place at Comesa Hall featuring Zambian musician Yo Maps as the headliner, would pull a huge crowd, but it was not to be as the commercial city failed to show up in numbers.
The Sound Addicts Live concert, led by renowned sound engineer Shadreck Kalukusha, came barely three months after they held a show in Lilongwe, which attracted a massive audience featuring a number of artists including Yo Maps.
Kalukusha said earlier that they would have loved to hold the show on Friday or Saturday but Yo Maps had a gig in Zambia on Saturday.
“We are trying to raise the pillar of our concerts and having brought Yo Maps to Lilongwe, we also thought we should reach out to Blantyre,” he said.

Despite the delays in starting the show, which were a song that sustained even during transitions, those who patronised the concert grooved savoring all the performances but it was Nyau king Tay Grin, who delivered an epic act that left them contented.
It also served as a reminder to the people that the artist has learned a lot from his international travels and, no wonder, he has been nominated for the Tourism Awards set to be held in Lilongwe this coming Saturday.
His set was rich and mature and was tiled with Gule Wamkulu that thrilled the audience as he dished out a number of tracks including his earliest tune ‘2 by 2’.
“I represent Malawi in all my doings and bringing Gule Wamkulu is something that I value so much as part of promoting and preserving culture,” he said in an interview after his performance.

Fresh from his listening party in Lilongwe of his yet-to-be released album Ah Yami, Saint opened the stage before a long break and then Kell Kay, who is also looking forward to holding his 10th year music career celebration at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe on October 15.
“I have enjoyed myself and I am thankful for the support,” he said.
Not skipping songs like ‘Lobola’ and ‘Mukanabwera’ that had people singing along, the artist revealed that he will announce another act and host for his show tomorrow.
Amapiano star Zeze Kingston, who came to the show in the company of his better half Dorothy, also raised the tempo, offering songs such as ‘Ndathela Pano’ and ‘Alamu Anu’ before he paved the way for Tay Grin.
Tay Grin performed for some time before there was another delay and then Yo Maps took over.
The Zambian artist showed he was no ordinary artist when he engaged the audience at will in his more-than-an-hour performance.
He ended his set on top when he collaborated with Eli Njuchi in his ‘Yabaya’ hit.
One of the people who patronised the show, who only identified herself as Monica, said the organisers need to improve, especially on cutting off the delays.
