Team Malawi will start residential camp from Sunday, April 5, to April 18 at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School in preparation for the 2026 African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
In a statement released yesterday, Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) acting Chief Executive Officer Ivy Chinangwa said the 13-day residential camp would bring together 264 athletes drawn from 14 sporting disciplines.
“The primary objective of the camp is to identify and select the final team that will represent Malawi at the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games scheduled for December 2026 in Maputo, Mozambique. The selected team will further undergo two more training camps before the Maputo games,” Chinangwa said.
Chinangwa said the council had intensified preparations with a strong commitment to surpassing the 2024 Region 5 achievement.
Malawi will send athletes in 14 sporting disciplines, including basketball (boys and girls), volleyball (boys and girls), netball, football (boys and girls), lawn tennis, table tennis, boxing, karate, judo, taekwondo, swimming, athletics, para-athletics and special Olympics.
