Malawi National Netball Team striker Temwa Chawinga has a chance to break her sister Tabitha’s record with three golden boot awards set to go her way this season.
The 24-year scored a brace as her team Wuhan Jiangda Women beat Chongqing Yongchuan 4-0 in the Chinese Women’s Super League on Saturday.
During the same match, Tabitha scored one goal and provided an assist for her younger sister’s second strike.
The brace took Temwa’s goal tally to 13 this season with 10 matches to go and is just four goals away from equalling the record Tabitha set.
Tabitha won the golden boot award in her debut season in China with 17 goals in 2018.

In 2019, she retained the award with 14 goals before Zambian Barbara Banda won it with 18 goals the following year but Temwa can smash her record if she nets five goals.
In an interview from China, Temwa said her aim is to take every opportunity that comes her way to help her team win.
“I cannot mention how many goals I intend to score but my aim is to utilise every opportunity that comes during our matches and score in every match. I want to help the team get maximum points and successfully defend the league title,’’ she said.
The former DD Sunshine striker lifted the golden boot award with 10 goals last year and has already won two golden boot awards and two cups in the current season.

She scored 15 goals to win the Chinese Football Association golden boot award after clinching a similar award with six goals in the Chinese National Cup in April this year.
Tabitha congratulated her sister for the outstanding performances.
“Another 4-0 victory! Another fantastic goal! A volley from the edge of the box. Temwa with a brace. Team Wuhan Jiangda,’’ she wrote on her Facebook page.
Tabitha is back at her parent club after an impressive season-long loan at Inter Milan Women, where she scored 23 goals in 23 matches to win the golden boot award.
