Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Temwa Chawinga Sunday clinched the 2026 Caf Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) golden boot award after scoring five goals in six matches.
The striker finished the competition with five goals alongside Zambian Barbara Banda and Cameroonian Marrie Ngah but she won the accolade after providing two assists.
Prior to the final, Temwa and Banda and were tied at five goals but Ngah netted a brace as Cameroon thrashed the Scorchers 3-0 in the Wafcon decider last night to help Cameroon win their first-ever Wafcon title.
However, Temwa won the award as the Confederation of African Football uses the number of assists by a player as a tie breaker if players score the same number of goals.

The Malawian had more assists than her opponents.

However, Temwa was not readily available for her comment yesterday.
Since 2010, no player has managed to score more than five goals at the Wafcon finals.
Her sister Tabitha Chawinga finished as the second joint top goalscorer alongside South African Themi Kgatlana.
By winning the Wafcon finals golden boot award, Temwa has written her own piece of history after winning the accolade in every competition she has participated in for two consecutive years.

Prior to that, Temwa also clinched the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship golden boot award with nine goals in South Africa.
The Scorchers scored 12 goals at the Wafcon finals.
Rose Kabzere scored two goals whereas Faith Chimzimu scored one goal.
