Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) has earmarked three venues for matches in the top 8 stage of its Thumbs Up Premier Division.

The association’s vice general secretary Kingsley Simbeye said the venues are Kamuzu, Mpira and Balaka stadia.
Simbeye said they were finalising arrangements to secure the three venues so that matches could kick off on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We want these matches to be played at the three venues because they are certified for TNM Super League matches. Our focus is now on producing a team that will represent us in the elite league and we want the prospective team to get used to playing on pitches that host big matches. So, there is no compromise on standards,” he said.
Simbeye said the eight teams would play against each other on a home-and-away basis at the three venues until a champion is produced next month.

“We, as organisers, will be the ones to determine which team will be at home and which one will play away and where. To ensure smooth running of this stage of the league, we convened a meeting with all stakeholders on Saturday so that we plan and move together,” he said.
Eight teams will fight for the title and automatic promotion to the TNM Super League after making the top four in groups A and B of the regional league.
The eight are Ntaja United, Red Lions, Ndirande Stars, Mwanza Stars, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Reserve, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve, Nyambadwe United and Ekhaya FC.
Group stage matches ended on Saturday with a Group A match between Mwanza and Ntaja at Mwanza Secondary School ground.

Mwanza won the match 2-0 to qualify at the expense of Cobbe Barracks, who would have gone through had the former lost.
