Top flight league sponsors, TNM plc, have revealed that the Mpamba-driven e-ticketing service is set to be rolled out next season following successful tests.
If implemented, the system will help end gate fraud, which is feared to be rampant in the country.
TNM plc Chief Executive Officer Michel Hebert disclosed this during the TNM Super League awards ceremony at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
“In 2023, TNM, together with Sulom [Super League of Malawi] and our technology partners, successfully completed trials of the Mpamba-driven e-ticketing service.
“We are satisfied with the test done, so far, and are ready to roll out,” Hebert said.
Hebert said the firm is confident that introduction of e-ticketing will be a great step in the quest to achieve football commercialisation in Malawi.
“Our hope is that all key stakeholders are excited as we are to get started. We live in a digital economy; we cannot afford to be laggards when, elsewhere in the world, access to football stadia is electronic and paperless.
“We have TNM Mpamba and the innovative Mpamba card to deliver this and look forward to e-ticketing in 2024,” he said.
On his part, Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said the initiative can help generate a lot of money for stakeholders.
“This is an innovation which all stakeholders should support as it can help generate more revenue,” Banda said.
