Mighty Wanderers have flown centre-back Chimwemwe Nkhoma to South Africa, where he is expected to undergo orthopaedic knee surgery at Mateke Hospital in Johannesburg.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Panganeni Ndovi said the player left for South Africa on Saturday through Bakili Muluzi International Airport in Blantyre.
“I can confirm that the club has flown Nkhoma to South Africa, where he is scheduled to undergo knee repair. You will recall that he has struggled with a knee injury since the pre-season period and we found it necessary to seek further medical attention abroad,” Ndovi said.
Nkhoma, who was seen off at the airport by the club’s administration officer Davie Chilupsya, expressed gratitude to Wanderers management for the “unwavering support” he has received since sustaining the injury.
“It is a huge relief for me to finally leave for the hospital, having stayed almost the entire season without kicking the ball,” Nkhoma said.

The former Malawi Under-20 centre-half suffered the knee injury earlier this year during a friendly match against Marine FC.
Nkhoma joined Wanderers from Mzuzu-based outfit Eagle Strikers in March 2023.
