Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have brought back former members of their technical panel to lead their campaign for silverware in the 2024 season.
Headlining the return is Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan and Meck Mwase who have been hired as head coach and assistant, respectively.
Ramadhan is making his second return to the club in the same capacity while Mwase played for the Lali Lubani Road side as a defender.
In a press statement released and dated February 14 and signed by the club’s recruitment taskforce chairperson Tiya Somba Banda, the Nomads also announced that Bob Mpinganjira would remain their reserve team coach with Safarao Pompi as his assistant.
Also making a comeback to the main team is former team manager Steve Madeira who returns to his post after leaving the club some two seasons ago.
Local football legend Yasin Osman is also back as technical director while Simplex Nthala and Levi Mwale have been appointed goalkeeper trainer and team doctor for the main team, respectively.
Former Malawi National Football Team star Lawrence Majawa has been assigned the role of team manager for the reserve side with legendary defender George Sangala being tasked with the role of leading the club’s under-19 team.
Ramadhan said he is ready to take up the challenge.
“I will use my vast experience in Malawi football and the league to redeem the lost glory at Wanderers. I believe the potential for us to do better as a team is quite high,” he said.
Mwase expressed delight at being considered for the job.
“I see God at work here. My heartfelt thanks go to the board and the entire Wanderers family for trusting me with such a big task. I will give out my best as an assistant coach,” he said.
Former Wanderers star Sherry Msuku commended the board for the appointments.
“The entire technical panel is a very good match made in heaven. I am happy that the board has gone for experience. These technical panel members already proved their worth in the country’s football and deserved another chance at Wanderers.
“We needed a coach of Ramadhan’s caliber with vast knowledge of our league having coached both [FCB Nyasa Big] Bullets and Wanderers before. So as a family, we wholeheartedly welcome these appointments,” Msuku said.
Ramadhan came into the limelight as a coach with Kiyovu FC of Burundi in 1996 during a Caf Champions League match against Bullets.
He then moved to Bullets where he helped the team to win silverware from 1997 to 2001.
A stint at Wanderers followed in 2001 before trekking down to Botswana where he coached Town Rollers in 2002.
In 2003, Ramadhan joined South Africa’s AmaZulu prior to joining Black Leopards in 2005.
The 59-year-old Burundian tactician was also named Flames caretaker coach in 2016.
His last coaching job was in Tanzania some three years ago.
