At least 25 coaches including 15 Europeans have applied for the vacant post at Mighty Mukuru Wanderers following the departure of Briton Mark Harrison, who joined UD Songo of Mozambique in December.
However, Wanderers officials have kept a tight lid on the identity of the applicants, who include seven Africans and three Malawians.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira said they wanted the coach to have started work by January 21.
“We [Wanderers] are a big brand and will not allow what happened last season to happen again. We are starting with the hiring of the coach anytime,” Mpinganjira said.

However, he was not certain if the process would continue in the absence of the dissolved board.

“I do not know whether we will wait for appointment of the board and whether the successful coach will be chosen through interviews or scrutiny of his curriculum vitae,” Mpinganjira said.
However, former Nomads midfielder Sherry Msuku said hiring a foreign coach would be a waste of resources.
“Pound for pound, I would say this again and again that Wanderers are the only team in the country with better players in almost all departments but they lacked a good coach last season.
“What they should do is to hire a local coach and give him time to build his own team. They need to refrain from giving him pressure. They will get the much needed results in a short time, unlike wasting time with foreign coaches,” Msuku said.

Wanderers are currently going through a rebuilding exercise after the team’s president Thomson Mpinganjira dissolved the board.
The development came after Wanderers fired the technical panel.
The Nomads finished the league on third position and were booted out of the FDH Bank Cup, Airtel Top 8 and Castel Challenge Cup.
They spent over K30 million on buying new players before the start of last season.
