Leaders Kamuzu Barracks’ (KB) impressive run in the TNM Super League continued Sunday after beating Blue Eagles 2-0 in a late kick-off at their own backyard in Lilongwe.
Other title contenders, Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers, also won yesterday to make it a three-horse race.
At Nankhaka Stadium, Davie Banda and Manase Chiyesa scored for the soldiers, who are six points away from winning the title. Eagles seem technically out of the race.
With just two games before the end of the season, KB have 55 points, a point above second-placed Bullets, who defeated Dwangwa United 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, courtesy of Mussa Manyenje’s goal.
KB are just 180 minutes away from becoming the first Malawi Defence Force side to win the league championship.
In a post-match reaction, Eagles’ Coach Derklerk Msakakuona admitted that they needed a miracle to win the title.
“We are almost out of the title race,” said Msakakuona about Eagles, who dropped to fourth position with 51 points.
Understandably, KB’s Coach Billy Phambala was happy.
“We have two games and hopefully we will win the title. We want the title more than any other team,” Phambala said.
Elsewhere, Silver kept their title hopes alive after thrashing Karonga United 5-0 at Silver Stadium to remain third with 53 points.
Lucky Malata grabbed a brace with the other goals coming from Binwell Katinji, Victor Limbani and an own goal from Nangaunogze Luhanga.
In the remaining games, KB will meet Karonga United before wrapping up against Dwangwa United. Bullets date Civo United and Eagles whereas
Silver have a fixture against Mafco and Be Forward Wanderers
In another game, Moyale Barracks beat Premier Bet Wizards 1-2 at MDC Stadium.
