Four top designers namely Lilly Alfonso, Christian Entwan and Nzika Wear will showcase their works and engage people on the fashion trade during a Fashion and Meet Fashion show to be held at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on August 25 2023.
Alfonso, who has showcased her designs in fashion platforms both in and outside the country, said Tuesday that the event is not just a regular fashion show but a different setup.
“Through this platform, apart from showcasing our pieces, we are speaking about designing clothing to introduce those coming up. We will introduce spring summer collections just as our friends do outside the country,” she said.
Alfonso said the move will also help them reach out to buyers and various players to engage them on the collections.
“Fashion makes a lot of money but we have not managed to take our share. There is more that we want to do, we are about to introduce a fashion show to go into the catalogues of the world,” she said.

The award-winning fashion designer said through the event, they also want to highlight where Malawi has to go to identify its national dressing.
“Each designer has been tasked to fashion a national piece to show what Malawi has. We will be presenting many things,” Alfonso said.
Having created a number of fashion wears, Alfonso said the platform is also aimed at speaking to decision makers about fashion.
“We are importing a lot of goods including clothes but it is high time we started exporting our own clothes. We have selected designers who are ready for the task. There is a demand out there for African traditional clothing and Malawi needs to take this chance. Fashion is real business that can contribute to the country’s economic growth,” she said.
