Organisers of the inaugural North Beach Music Festival, to be held at Chikale Beach in Nkhata Bay next month, said Tuesday that 45 artists will perform at this year’s event.
The three-day festival, organised by Thoms Park Events led by Thomson Madulira, will start on September 1 through to September 3.
Madulira, who is the chief executive officer, said they were happy to bring a unique festival to the Northern Region which, he observed, has been sidelined when it comes to festivals.
“This is the beginning of more things to come. This festival is not a one-off thing but rather it will be annual. We started the preparations way back and now we are ready to host it. We have a line-up that is appetising and it is all homegrown,” he said.

Madulira said the budget was huge for the festival that also seeks to unite people and called upon the corporate world and well-wishers to support them for them to execute a perfect event.
“This festival is also part of supporting the government in using art and culture to promote tourism. Art and culture have potential to grow our tourism sector and market it out there.
“This festival will give people a chance to sample Malawian music and, at the same time, get to appreciate some of the unique places in the Northern Region,” he said.
Madulira said, being debut festival, they want to do it better and that they have also intensified security so that people enjoy themselves without any challenges.

“We just want to call upon people to buy tickets in advance rather than having to wait on the day. We are here not just to make up the numbers for festivals in the country but we want to give people beautiful memories through this event,” he said.
Some of the artists set to perform at the festival include Soldier Lucius Banda, Lulu, Driemo, Janta, Skeffa Chimoto, Great Angels Choir, Black Missionaries, Anthony Makondetsa, Nepman, Gibo Pearson, Machuluka and Dan Muyaya.
Meanwhile, some people doing business in Nkhata Bay have hailed Thoms Park Events for creating the festival, saying it will give them an opportunity to make sales.
“We have been looking for platforms to sell our things and we are happy that we have this festival,” Loyce Mhango, said.
Bar owner James Gondwe said they have been longing to watch some of the celebrated artists live and that the festival has presented them with the chance.
