Chitipa United head coach MacDonald ‘Nginde’ Mtetemela says his troops can challenge for the TNM Super League title after surpassing their first round target.
The rookies are second on the table with 29 points from 15 matches following their 1-0 victory over Moyale Barracks to finish the first round with 29 points from 15 matches.
Mtetemela indicated that his initial target was to survive relegation but he is now confident that they can pull a surprise in the second round.
“I have a youthful squad which is very attentive and keen to learn. I told the boys that we must not get relegated and let us play to prove that we are capable of making it. The relationship is quite impressive in the team and this has given us an upper hand to have a wonderful first round,” Mtetemela said.
The former Flames defender said he was confident that the squad would not get complacent in the second round, having registered success against top league teams such as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

“Our aim is to compete for the league title. If we continue the way the team played in the first round, I have no doubt that history can be written that Chitipa won this year’s championship,” Mtetemela said.
Chitipa will kick-start their second round assignments against Karonga United on Saturday at Karonga Stadium.
