At least 500 Malawians travel to India for medical help every year, a development that has exposed resource gaps in Malawi.
This was revealed in Blantyre over the weekend during a seminar on Indian Diaspora in Malawi.
Speaking after the seminar, India High Commissioner to Malawi Shri Gopalakrishnan said the Indian government has received expressions of interest from various groups in India to set up medical facilities in Malawi.
He added that during the first week of November, Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda will be traveling to India where she is expected to explore the possibility of having Indians setting up a hospital in Malawi.
“In the meantime, I suggest that we allow more specialists from India to come to Malawi and train doctors and clinicians in different medical sectors so that they help people locally,” he said.
