The Malawi Women’s National Football Team made history again when they moved 34 places up on the latest Fifa World rankings, moving to position 119 from 153.
This is Malawi’s biggest jump on the rankings since the team made its international appearance in 2002.
According to the results released yesterday, the Scorchers are the best movers in the world during the period under review. Malawi accumulated 1140.88 points.
This follows their impressive debut campaign at the 2026 Caf Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals in Morocco in August, where they finished second and also qualified for Fifa Women’s World Cup to be staged in Brazil next year.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya said he was excited with the Scorchers exploits.

Malawi beat Ghana 2-1 in the quarterfinals before beating Algeria 3-1 in the semifinals.
