Information and Communications Technology Minister Shadric Namalomba has challenged the global community to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) serves people, warning that without deliberate action, the technology will widen existing inequalities.
Namalomba made the call on Wednesday, when he delivered a keynote address during a ministerial meeting at the ongoing 2026 World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China.
He said the true measure of AI’s success is not how advanced it is, but how it transforms the lives of the most vulnerable, including women, youth, farmers and persons with disabilities.

On his part, World Internet Conference Chairperson, who is also Minister of Cyberspace Administration of the People’s Republic of China, Zhuang Rongwen, said the conference was vital for global technology development.
The conference has attracted people from over 50 countries.
