Internal auditors in the country have been challenged to be radical and evolve along with changing trends in the industry if they are to remain effective and relevant.
High Court Judge Zione Ntaba made the call at the weekend in Mangochi when she opened the 2023 Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) lakeshore conference.
Ntaba said unless internal auditors adapt to change, they will be buried in technology and even fail in their jobs due to technologically advanced fraud.
She urged the internal auditors to adapt with speed as the profession remains critical in contributing towards national economic development.
“Malawi 2063 needs all hands on deck and paramount among them is proper utilisation of resources. Since internal auditors are guardians of funds, whether in the public or private sector, they need to adapt and contribute to such needs,” Ntaba said.

IIA Malawi President Dickson Chasambira said adapting to change remains essential towards creating a competitive edge.
He then challenged the internal auditors to work towards creating platforms for continued discussion on their positioning on the landscape.
“We encourage auditors to be part of the institute so that we discuss and bring change together. If some of us fail because we are not part of the institute, the blame will go to the whole profession,” he said.
