Bangwe All Stars have called for a crisis meeting Wednesday following the team’s poor start to the 2024 TNM Super League season.
The team is still searching for its first win of the season after playing seven matches. The 1-0 loss to Mafco at Mpira Stadium on Sunday summed up Bangwe’s poor start to the campaign.
Bangwe Chief Executive Officer Chikumbutso Mathumba said the meeting is aimed at turning the team’s fortunes around.
“The situation is worrisome. We are puzzled as to why the team is failing to win matches despite playing good football. We lost to Mafco despite creating several chances. We will brainstorm on the matter,” Mathumba said.
Mathumba said the meeting will also deliberate on the appointment of a permanent coach after Mapopa Msukwa was hired on temporary basis following the resignation of Christopher Nyambose.

“We have received several applications for the vacant post; so, we will short list the candidates,’’ he said.
Msukwa guided Bangwe to a goal-less stalemate against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in his first match. He has lost two matches by 1-0 margins to Kamuzu Barracks and Mafco. Bangwe held Civil Service United to a 1-1 stalemate.
Despite a poor start to the season, Msukwa said the team was just going through a bad patch.
“It is unfortunate that we are struggling but we have good players. I cannot blame their players as they are trying the best. I am sure, very soon, the team will start winning games,’’ Msukwa said.

Bangwe are stuck in the relegation zone with three points from seven matches, one point above bottom-placed Baka City. They will face Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium on Sunday.
