Mighty Wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira has warned his charges to guard against complacency in their quest to win the TNM Super League championship, which has eluded them for six years.
Mpinganjira said beating rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 was a huge statement in their ambition but said the effort would not bear fruits if the side lacked consistency.
“Indeed, consistency is crucial for us to be the league title contenders. We have not lost any match so far and if the boys continue this way, I am sure we will be good to go and compete for the title,” Mpinganjira said.
Wanderers produced a vintage performance to end Bullets’ perfect start to the season with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Blessings Mwalilino’s goal.
“I am very happy that we won and I salute our boys for applying what we agreed in training. We told them to be the first on the ball and it is exactly what they did. This is the kind of performance we need for the rest of the season,” Mpinganjira said.

Following the win, the Nomads are two points behind Bullets after collecting 16 points from six matches, one less than Bullets.

Football analyst Parry Chinyama shared Mpinganjira’s sentiments on the need for the club to be consistent to reclaim the championship they last won in 2017.
“This is the season we have seen Wanderers starting positively, unlike in the last three seasons. The team is much organised administratively, technically as well as financially.
“This has enabled them to produce results this year. It has not recruited willy-nilly this season, which normally distracts its cohesion and the teamwork has profited them,” Chinyama said.

Before the start of the season, Wanderers roped in striker Promise Kamwendo from Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos, midfielder Nanison Mbewe and Mwalilino from Karonga United, goalkeeper Chancy Mtete from Mzuzu City Hammers and full back Masiya Manda.
