By Mercy Matonga:
Catholics Tuesday gathered at Likuni Parish in Lilongwe to bid farewell to Father Francis Damaseke, who has been described as a devoted servant of the Church.
Hundreds of the faithful, clergy and dignitaries attended the burial ceremony to pay their respects to Damaseke.
Delivering his homily, Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa said Damaseke lived a life of dedication to God and the church, urging Christians to reflect on their own lives in light of his passing.
“He was a faithful servant and his death should remind us all of the need to prepare for our own day and live a holy life,” he said.

Damaseke, who was born in September 1986, died on Saturday, April 11, and has been laid to rest in the priests’ cemetery at Likuni Parish.
Speaking after the burial ceremony, Monsignor Patrick Thawale said Damaseke’s death has left a void in the Catholic community, with many remembering him for his humility, commitment and service to the faithful.
“Damaseke reached out to many through digital media. He preached on social media and touched many lives. To me, this is a humble petition to God to receive him into eternal life,” he said.
On his part, UTM president Dalitso Kabambe, who attended the funeral ceremony, said Damaseke was one of the church leaders who helped people address their problems.

“Whether it is [the issue of] marital problems or personal growth, church leaders always stand by the people, giving them hope. To lose such energetic people is both sad and heartbreaking,” Kabambe said.
The burial ceremony brought together attendees, including Vice President Jane Ansah, alongside senior Catholic leaders from across the country. They included Peter Chifukwa of Dedza Diocese, Montfort Stima of Mangochi Diocese, among others.
