The tournament will be staged at Beyond Christian Academy in Lilongwe this coming Saturday.
Players will compete in under-16, 14 and 12 categories.

“The tournament is happening for the third time to support chess development in Malawi,” she said.
Namangale said registration for the tournament was free, adding that the registration process will close today.
“The goal is to make chess tournaments competitive at the grassroots. So far, over 150 children have registered and we expect over 200 children,” Namangale said.
She said Jiabaili shop would provide prizes for the kids.

“We are using chess as an education tool for building important life skills needed for strategic leaders who will be key to the implementation of the Malawi 2063 vision. This is our contribution to building a better future for Malawi,” Namangale said.
She said they had invited sports officials through Chess Association of Malawi and the Ministry of Education to grace the tournament.
Arbiter Gilton Mkumbwa said the tournament was important as it would help youngsters to improve their skills.
“Playing chess is one of the best things because it helps to improve cognitive skills such as memory, problem-solving, strategic thinking and concentration, which can help the youngsters to grow into formidable individuals,” Mkumbwa said.
